It’s been a huge week on the bowling greens at the Golfie with the highlight of the week being the much anticipated Championship Fours game on Sunday which was won convincingly by the favourites, Kyle Roberts, Don Roberts, Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond and Barry Bargwanna.

The group of spectators for the match was  treated to a spectacular display of consistently masterful bowling by Team Roberts throughout play.

Their victory by +10 was well deserved.

Their opposition, Team ‘Shark’ (John Daly, Karen Daly, Marlene Wynd and Shine McIver) commented they were proud to have been Team Roberts’ competition in the final.

On the social front on Sunday, there was  another huge turnout of 24 bowls enthusiasts.

The outright winners for the day were never in doubt with Gerard Livingston and Tony  Polack scoring big points on multiple ends to finish with a +24 victory over Paul Kershaw and Shane Carter.

The day’s runners-up were Michael Sargent and newcomer Tom McKeown.

Their +6 end win early in the match pretty much decided the fate of their opponents, Bian Smith and Peta Zazoniuk. Sargent and McKeown went on to record a win by +16.

In the other games, veteran bowler Doug Hudson teamed up with Darryl Jermyn to win +6 against Alec Fraser and Rob Renkin (Bramble Bay); +6 was also the winning margin for Jim Goonrey and Janet Renkin (Bramble Bay) over Dean ‘Bogger McLeod and David Thomas; David ‘Ooze’ Knight and Jason Howell had a +4 victory against John Goonrey and Allan Gardoll; while a draw was recorded in the game between Peter ‘China’  Brien/Narelle Kriz and Peter ‘Skeet’ Goonrey/Greg Clark.

Karen Daly collected the George the Giraffe Award after her nerves got the better of her when playing in her very first championship final.

Her wrong bias bowl delighted the entire green and brought cheers from the spectators.

Friday’s Twilight Bowls Spider winner was Jean Roberts.

Narelle Kriz and Rob Renkin, on +10, were the winners for the evening. The jackpot prize was not won and now stands at $760.

Social bowls on Australia Day drew a strong field of 26 bowlers despite the sweltering heat.

All games were pretty tight with Don Roberts and Scott Hilton winning the day with a score of +7 over Craig ‘Duck’ Grimmond and Damon Pike.

Jeff Smith and Narelle Kriz finished as runners-up after their +6 win over David Schofield and Glen ‘Kiwi’ Ratcliffe.

A score of +5 secured a win for John and Karen Daly over Alec Fraser and Allan Gardoll.

The other three games ended in +1 wins for Marlene Wynd/Janet Renkin versus Rob Renkin/Tom McKeown; Paul Kershaw/Peta Zazoniuk beat China/David Thomas; and Bian Smith/Tony Polack/Sandra Zazoniuk were victors over  David Knight/Scott Mayne/Kelly Beard.—The Second
