Great bowls games played in Championships

The Championship Bowls Singles match played last Monday at the Golfie between veteran bowler Alan Knight and relative new comer to the championship scene, Alec Fraser, started strong for Fraser who led the way for the first eight ends.

Then Knight rallied to reign him in bringing the scores to even.

Finally, Knight’s charge was too strong ending with a +15 win which will take him through to the semi’s.

Also played last Monday was a Championship Pairs game with Tadgh Waugh and Michael Sargent taking on Steve Manns and Greg Clark.

The card showed that Team Sarg surged ahead from the start scoring multiple end wins of four and, to rub salt into the wound, a six shot win towards the end of the game.

Team Sarg finished with a +17 victory which takes them through to the next round.

There was another Pairs Championship game on Sunday between legendary master of bowls Doug Hudson and his partner Paul Kershaw who took on young guns Tony Polack and Damon Pike. By the 8th end Team Hudson thought they had it in the bag as they led by +9, however you should never underestimate the power of youthful tenacity, as by the 13th end, the young guns were only one down. Team Hudson then dug deep into their well used arsenal of skills and by the 18th end they were in front by +5. Wait, there’s more! Team young guns fought valiantly to the very last end and they finally had to concede defeat, but it was only by a paltry one point to the Hudson/Kershaw masters…Full report in this week’s edition out now!
