Exciting start to the new junior touch 2023 season

The new Junior Touch competition kicked off on Thursday afternoon at Ward Oval and it’s looking like it’s going to be an exciting season ahead.

In one of the junior 9-12 years first round games there was only one try the difference while a match in the seniors 13-16 years competition ended in a draw.

In the 9-12 years juniors game between Orange and Red, the scores were locked at 3-all at half time before Orange just got the better of Red to win 5-4.

Rhylee Jeffery scored twice for Orange to add four points to their winning tally (female tries are worth two points) and Judd Josephson also touched down for Orange.

Red’s points came from two tries by Charlie Nicholson and one each to Keelan Atuau and Tommy George.

Best & Fairest points were shared by Red’s players Michael Rogers, Audrey Josephson and Charlie Nicholson.

In the other juniors game, after having a narrow 3-2 advantage at half time, Blue went on to finish with a 7-2 win over Yellow.

Ella Oborn and Riley Bruce each crossed twice for Blue with London Hyland adding their extra point.

Dusty McDonald and Alfie Toomey raced away to score a try each for Yellow.

Ella, Dusty and Holly Watt (Yellow) shared the B&F points.

In the seniors 13-16 years division, the match between Pink and Yellow finished in a 7-all tie.

Aiden Hyland and Jack Rogers scored two tries each for Pink, with Oisin McMullen and Sosie Barton their other try scorers.

Five players scored a try each for Yellow and included Billy George, Ella Oborn, Josh Francisco, Parker Cryer and Rhylee Patterson.

B&F points went to Aiden, Jack Dunn (Yellow) and Skyla Fairfull (Yellow).

The other senior game was a high scoring match with Green finishing as 13-6 winners over Blue.

Rhylee Jeffery led the try scoring for Green with four tries for the match with Maddie Bruce touching down twice and Kai McCosker also crossed for a try.

Blue’s points came from two tries to Clay McDonald and one each to team mates Bridgette Negfeldt, Hayden Seng and Rowdy Barton.

B&F points were earned by Rhylee, Maddie and Oscar Ryan (Green).
