Cobar out in force to celebrate ‘Howie’

Cobar came out in force on Saturday night to join Fire & Rescue NSW representatives from across the state in a special rugby union event at Ailsa Fitzsimmons Memorial Oval. Past and current Camels, Old Boys, firefighters and players from other football codes took to the field for two games played for bragging rights and the Howie Cup, with the Firies taking out the main game (with assistance from some locals). The evening was in memory of former Cobar firefighter Daniel ‘Howie’ Howard, who was killed in the line of duty while fighting the fire which destroyed the New Occidental Hotel in 2014
