Castlereagh women’s rugby league starts

The Castlereagh League Cougars Women’s Rugby League teams, with a number Cobar faces in this season’s team line-ups, will be taking to the field this Saturday in Dubbo for the first round of the Western Women’s Rugby League Championships (WWRLC).

This year’s WWRLC Cougars sides will play teams from five other clubs with the Panorama Platypi, the Orange Vipers, the Dubbo-based Goannas, Mudgee Dragons and Woodbridge Cup clubs all nominating teams for the new season.

As the strength of women’s rugby league competition continues to grow this season will see four grades contested, with Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 18s and Opens teams all competing this season.

Cobar is expected to be well represented in the Under 15s side with six Cobar players having recently trialled for places with the Castlereagh team.

Cobar Roosterettes player and coach, Bianka Jacobson, who played with the Cougars Opens team last season, has also been selected in this season’s Opens side.

Castlereagh group secretary, Bryson Luff, reports the Cougars have good player numbers in all four grades and are hopeful of a productive on field season.

Their first assignment this Saturday in Round 1 is up against the strong Goannas club, with the games being played at Dubbo’s Apex Oval.
