A big field of 41 competitors turned out for
the CATS (Cobar Athletics & Triathlon
Squad’s) monthly triathlon event on Sunday,
which is the biggest group they’ve ever had
in the club’s history.
The numbers were bolstered with the introduction
this month of the Copper City Tyre
Service Team Challenge which offered $250
prize money for the winning club which finished
closest to their nominated time.
Nine teams representing five local clubs,
Senior Roosters, Junior Rugby League, Junior
Soccer, the Camels and the CATS, entered.
The Junior League #2 side finished as the
winners after completing the short course
(300m swim, 10km ride, 2km run) within 21
seconds of their nominated time.
Second was the Senior Roosters #1 team
(2min 33sec) and third was Team Incompetent
(representing Junior League) with 2.53 off
their time.
There were also two new teams competing
for the first time over the Try-A-Tri course of
200m swim, 5km ride and 2km run.
Axel Fairfull was the handicap winner with
Clair Cousins second and Clayton Lewis third.
A number of personal best performances
were recorded by individuals on the Short
Course with Axel setting a new time in his
swim leg and overall time; Isaac Theakston
improved on his swim time; Laura Andrew
bettered her ride, run and overall time; and
Clair Cousins had ride and run PBs.
Competing in a team in the Long Course
(500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run), Chris
Powell improved his swim time.
