The greens at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club over the weekend were once again a hive of activity for the club’s Copper City Pairs Bowls tournament.

The local team of Daniel Holt and Chris Cooney took home the winner’s prize pool with four wins and a total score of +41 for the tournament. Dave Portelli and Jack Tulloh finished as the runners-up.

There was a tie for third place between the Roberts father/son team of Don and Kyle and the Nyngan father and son pairing of Brett and Adam Jermyn.

The other father and son team of the tournament, David and Alan Knight, finished out of the top placings.

The event attracted 18 teams of players from around the district and also included teams from Dubbo and Goodooga as well as two sides from Walgett, one of which held the title of ‘the oldest team in the tournament’.

Despite playing bowls for more than 30 years each, for Jim Lyall and partner Victor Murray (both aged 77), this year’s Copper City Bowls tournament was the first time the pair had played in Cobar.

Lyall said they very much enjoyed the warm Cobar welcome and the fellowship and camaraderie of the tournament.

The spritely duo put on a good show up against the all female team of Sandra Zazoniuk and Margaret Good in the repechage finals on Sunday with an excellent display of bowling which won them the game.

A contingent of the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club’s lady bowlers participated in a memorial day bowls event at Nyngan recently.

‘Shine’ McIver, Glenda Peebles, Helen Body, Marlene Wynd, Joy Josephson, Sandra Zazoniuk and Margaret Good all reportedly played excellent bowls on the day.

Peebles and Body were the best of the Cobar group winning their second game by the biggest margin.—contributed
