A new business venture

It’s taken a long time to get there, but local Peter Payne (right), at age 65, has finally realised his long held dream of opening his own law practice. Prompted by his proud family, Peter had an official opening of his new law office in Becker Street on Saturday with friends, family and work colleagues in attendance. After leaving high school Peter started work as a law clerk with a Dubbo firm however after his father died he returned to help his mother run the family business, the New Occidental Hotel. After working and raising his own family, Peter recommenced his law studies in 2007 and was admitted as a lawyer in 2013. For the past three years Peter has worked with local solicitor Geoffrey Langford (pictured above) and this week has branched out on his own. “It’s been a happy three years working with Peter,” Geoffrey said. “We get on well, we still get on well, we’ll continue to get on well. I enjoyed his time with me. I wish him all the very best in this enterprise and I hope he will do really well.”
