Rugby fans in Cobar have reason to celebrate as their women’s rugby team, the Cobar Bactrians, is planning a triumphant return to the field.
This year the team has reassembled with a mix of experienced players and enthusiastic newcomers, ready to reignite the town’s passion for the sport.
One of the fresh recruits to the squad is Jazz Beddows, hailing from Queensland.
Having never played rugby before, Jazz has enjoyed learning the game at Tuesday night trainings and the great team environment.
“I’ve always wanted to play rugby union, and when I heard the Bactrians were getting back together, I knew I had to be part of it,” Jazz said.
“The Old Boys on the Cobar Camels committee have really thrown their weight behind the women’s team.
“It’s been really special playing with a motivated group of girls,” she said.
As they prepare for their upcoming matches, the Bactrians are determined to make their mark.
New players of all ages and experiences are welcome, with trainings held at Cobar Rugby Union club on Tuesday nights.
This year the Bactrians will be playing social inter-town rugby gala days as they build a tackle squad to join a new competition in 2026.—contributed
