A fantastic turn out of 25 Yabbies helped the Cobar Senior Men’s Swimming Club to retain the Setts Cup on Sunday when they came up against the Nyngan Splashers club in the now annual swimming event.

Held to honour the memory of former Cobar Yabbies club president, Ian Settree, this year’s swim was hosted by the Cobar club at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Sunday and the winner’s cup was presented by Ian’s daughter Wendy Robinson.

Among the Cobar contingent was Ian’s grandson Brett Robinson, who returned to Cobar for the swimming carnival.

The Yabbies grabbed first points on Sunday morning when Greg Clark won the first event, the 20 metres handicapped freestyle swim, after he swam spot on his nominated time.

Second was Nyngan Splasher Michelle Finn (0.04) and third was a tie between newly recruited and third generation Yabby Blake Toomey and Nyngan Splasher Noel Finn, both with times of 0.06 seconds.

In the 50 metres swim Bob Clark repeated his son Greg’s feat to swim spot on his nominated time.

In second place was Jason Toomey (0.03) and Greg Clark was third on 0.07.

Nyngan claimed the top two places in
the 100m event with Vicki Cleaver winning with a time of 0.84 seconds off her nominated time.

Second was Greg Deacon (0.85) and third was Yabby Andrew Watts on 1.09.

The Yabbies finished one, two and three in the Brace Relay novelty event with Colin ‘Butch’ Eves and Scott Toomey first on 1.53; Bill Fugar and John Carswell were second with 2.47 and third was Greg Clark and Murray Harland (3.19).

The Cobar side also easily won the 10 man relay after finishing to within 4.93 seconds of their nominated time.

The Cobar Yabbies finished with a grand total of 23 points to Nyngan’s tally of eight.
