Yabbies delay their season start by one week

An unseasonably cool start to spring this year has delayed the commencement of the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club’s 2016/2017 season by a week.

In past years it has been traditional for the Yabbies to commence swimming after the long weekend.

However as last week’s daytime temperatures only reached the high teens/low 20s (compared to mid 30s temperatures which have been recorded in the week proceeding the long weekend for the past two years) the water temperature in the pool this week is still “a bit chilly”.

The Yabbies also decided to delay the start for another week due to a number of members being absent on school holidays.

The Cobar Bowling & Golf Club Yabbies have a big 2016/2017 season ahead commencing with the Annual Five Way Swim in Forbes at the end of this month.

Clubs from Nelson Bay, Gosford, Malabar, Forbes and Cobar compete annually for the highly coveted “Aquaholic Shield”.

Their next event will be in early December for the ‘Setts Cup’, a competition between Nyngan and Cobar.

The Yabbies will then head to Wellington in February for the Western Districts AIF Carnival before the National AIF Championships in Grafton in March.

Men 18 years and over are welcome to join the Yabbies at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool for their first swim (which is a handicapped event) next Tuesday, October 11 commencing at 6pm.
