With dubious weather on Saturday, the crowd at this year’s Cobar Miners Race Club Picnic Races looked to be down on previous years however the committee reports 700 racegoers still passed through the gate. The day started warm and sunny before a cool change, strong winds and a little bit of rain played havoc with the scheduled five race program (along with some of the ladies’ hats, umbrellas and bookies’ stands). The race stewards made the decision to accelerate the program and all five races went ahead. Pictured are a selection of some of this year’s race goers.
Melbourne-based jockey Rhonda Mangan made the long trip to the Cobar Miners Race Club meeting on Saturday worthwhile by winning the KML Industries-Buckman Family Memorial Benchmark 50 Handicap (1,200 metres) for Cobar trainer Wayne Prisk.
