The year 2020 will be one that most people will probably want to forget but for Castlereagh League Rugby League supporters it might well be one to savour, especially for those clubs that have teams involved in the grand finals, like Cobar!
In a season that has been played under the ever-changing shadow of COVID-19 the Castlereagh League competition has been one of a limited number of regional NSWRL competitions that has gone ahead which is great testimony to the passion that clubs and players in the area have for the game.
The on-field grand finals action kicks off this Saturday at Gilgandra’s McGrane Oval in the Youth League competition with the Cobar Roosters up against the Coonamble Bears.
The match will be a replay of the 2019 Grand Final, which saw the Cobar club claim their first Castlereagh League premiership when they won a thrilling encounter 30-24.
In their two meetings this season, victories have gone to the home side with the Bears winning 32-10 at Coonamble and the Roosters returning serve with a 26-18 win at Cobar.
While Coonamble finished at the top of the table, the Cobar team will be hoping to continue their sensational form of the past few weeks which should see them easily roll the Bears.
The League Tag grand final follows and is a Battle of the Birds with the Baradine Magpiettes up against the Dunedoo Swannettes.
The highly anticipated First Grade clash will be between the Gilgandra Panthers and the Dunedoo Swans.
Spectators should note that due to COVID the 2020 grand final arrangements are different to what has been the norm in the past.
Tickets need to be pre-purchased online at 123tix and car entry is restricted to a limited number of vehicles for the aged and disabled.
