Young chicks get a run with Roosterettes in trial match

The Cobar Roosterettes brought in some young ‘chicks’ including Aisha Schofield for their trial game against Nyngan on Saturday afternoon at Tom Knight Memorial Oval. Aisha (pictured above) gave the Nyngan defenders plenty of grief throughout the match including a near length of the field chase to stop her from scoring.

The Cobar Roosterettes Ladies League Tag new-look squad displayed plenty of skills in their trial match against Nyngan on Saturday at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.

Co-Coaches Bianka Jacobson and Jay Egan were impressed with the first hit out of the mostly new team which was narrowly beaten
12-8 by the visitors.

The Roosterettes have been focused on building their defence this season and it showed with the Nyngan girls having to call upon all their skills to break their try line.

The visitors touched down first but the Cobar side replied not long after with Taylah Good’s try out wide levelling the score at 4-all.

Madasan Taylor crossed untouched shortly after to put Cobar in the driver’s seat and they took an 8-4 lead before Nyngan bounced back to level the scores at half time.

Nyngan had the glut of possession in the second half and Cobar defenders Briana Watson, Jezebel Hitchins, Jacobson, Aisha Schofield and Taylor, at fullback, working hard to hold them out.

Midway through the second half Nyngan made use of an overlap out wide and scored in the corner to go ahead 12-8. Schofield’s gutsy length of the field run would have levelled the scores again had she been able to touch down, however she was caught just before the try line by the determined Nyngan defenders and they claimed the 12-8 victory.
