Wet weather continues to play havoc with sport

Lady golfers Geraldine Francisco, Karen Manns and Daphne Cross out playing the first six holes of the course on Saturday. The rest of the course is currently water-logged and closed for play. The competition golfers are concerned at the number of social golfers who have been ignoring the closed signs on sections of the course and playing on those areas. With all the water damage (and further damage caused by those ignoring the closed signs), the course is going to need a lot of repairs before next year’s competition begins.

Wet weather again played havoc with last week’s rounds of the Ladies Golf competition with the course still restricted with just the front six holes open for play.

Unfortunately there have been a number of social golfers ignoring the closed sign on the bridge alongside the 3rd hole and have been venturing out to the water logged fairways.

If this continues, the golf course will be closed to all including walkers as well as carts.

A lot of repairs are needed before next year’s golf season can begin and this can only be achieved if directions from the course management are followed.

Last Tuesday’s rain cancelled Wednesday’s match but the weekend games were able to go ahead, albeit modified for just six holes.

Saturday’s Stableford win went to Julie Livingston with 34 points. Jannine Wilkin placed second on a countback from Daphne Cross when both scored 33 points and Barb Barklimore finished with 32 points.

Nearest the Pin winners on the 2nd hole (now playing as a par 3) were Fran Samios, Jannine Wilkin and Glenda Peebles.

In Sunday’s variation Stableford game, Jannine Wilkin and Marlene Wynd teamed up to win with 58 points.

The individual winner was Glenda Peebles who won on a countback from Marlene Wynd after each posted 34 points.

Closest to the flag on the 2nd hole were Julie Livingston, Marlene Wynd and Glenda Peebles and on the 8th hole the winners were Julie Livingston, Jannine Wilkin and Glenda Peebles.

It doesn’t look promising for any games this week as more of the wet stuff is predicted to come bucketing down again.

Being optimistic, today’s game should be a Stroke Flag event, Saturday’s is a Stableford learners day and another Stableford is to be contested on Sunday. (Ladies will however be teeing off the men’s tees for something different.)—T’d Off
