Two Cobar Pony Club riders travelled to Mudgee on the weekend to compete in the Pony Clubs of Australia NSW State One Day Event Championships.
Representing Zone 17, that consists of Cobar, Bourke and Tottenham, Kaila Wharton competed in the 17-25 years Advanced section on ‘Be Just’ jumping Championship Grade and Catherine Bolam competed in the 12-15 years Novice section on ‘Noddy’ jumping C Grade.
Kaila performed a great dressage test that put her straight into the lead and stayed in front after a fantastic double clear cross country round.
Going into the showjumping phase, the scores were very close and after taking down a few rails, Kaila then slipped back to second position and finished with the NSW State Reserve Championship Sash.
Kaila also picked up the Optimum Time Award coming in exactly on time.
This was Catherine’s first attempt at a state level competition and she was among the largest field of riders.
Catherine performed a good dressage test that left her mid field in 20th place and after a few penalties during the cross country phase, she’d slid back to 23rd spot.
After a great effort in the showjumping phase where she finished with a clear round, Catherine finished 23rd which was a good result and great experience for her.—contributed
