Triathlon club welcomes 10 new members to monthly event

The Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad (CATS) welcomed 10 new members to their December triathlon on Sunday with the event attended by a record number of competitors with 28 taking part.

Georgia Baker, competing in the individual short course event (300m swim, 10km bike ride and 2km run), was the winner of the overall handicap event.

She also had the Ladies best overall, swim and bike times while Amie Hill finished with the Ladies short course best run time (10min10sec) of the day.

Georgia Baker was also first across the line in an overall time of 40min 21sec.

Second in the overall handicap event was the mother and son team of Kylie and Noah Lynch.

Noah started them off on the right foot with a good time in the swim leg while mum Kylie did the ride and run legs for the team to finish with a combined time of 53min 56sec.

Third overall in the handicap event was Alistair Travis, who competed in the long course event (500m swim, 20km ride and 4km run).

Travis set new personal best times in his run and ride legs to finish with an overall time of 1.18.45.

Glorious weather greeted competitors at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool early on Sunday morning which made it conducive for a number of personal best (PB) times being recorded on the day.

Competing in the long course event, Martin Scott set new PBs in his swim and ride legs; Andy O’Donnell also finished with new PBs for his swim and ride legs; and Pip O’Donnell recorded a faster run time.

In the short course, Zoë Harland, Karen Menadue and Kristen Camery recorded new PBs in their swim legs; Steph Baker improved her ride time and Lisa Travis (Team RNs) bettered her run time.

Debbie Schnieder finished the short course with an overall PB after bettering her times in her swim and ride legs; Chad Buckman improved on his swim and run times for a new overall PB (Chad also had the best men’s run time in the short course of 9min9sec); and Aaron Davey finished with PBs in his ride and run legs and also overall time.

The club is planning two events next month.
