It’s been a wet and wild start to the new year with some large storms, gusty winds and high temperatures recorded in and around the Shire of Cobar.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology the first 17 days of January included temperatures of up to 41 degrees, large storm cells that brought spectacular lightning shows, heavy showers and wind gusts of up to 93km with some local residents also reporting hailstones in last week’s storm.
As of 9am yesterday our total rainfall so far for 2022 is 25mm (over five days) however some landholders fared a lot better in last Thursday’s downpour with the Francisco’s north of Cobar recording 60mm in one of their gauges.
The Lawrences from Milliedale, located east of Cobar, collected 58mm in their gauge.
The mercury took a dive yesterday with 28 the predicted top temperature, which is also expected today.
Tomorrow should be cloudy with a maxi-mum of 29 degrees and another chance of a small shower.
The forecast for Friday and Saturday is part-ly cloudy and 32 degrees while Sunday is expected to reach a top of 33.
Monday is also expected to be 33 with a possible chance of 5mm of rain.
