The Cobar Roosters Under 18s side thrilled the big home crowd at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday pulling off a nail-biting 26-18 win over Coonamble in the Castlereagh Youth League competition.
The Roosters started well and had a commanding 16-0 lead up until just before half time.
It was only just before the break that the Bears crossed for their first points with the margin 16-6 at half time.
Despite being in the driver’s seat and calling the shots for most of the game, the Cobar side lost focus later in the second half after the Bears scored back-to-back tries which saw them snatch the lead at 18-16.
To their credit, the Roosters regathered and minutes later had reclaimed a 20-18 lead.
Another try in the final minute of play cemented Cobar’s 26-18 win.
Khan McMurray led the Roosters’ try scoring with two tries, with Ted Smith, Jacob Christie and Zeb Coughlan also touching down. Lochlan Ford (2) and Smith kicked conversions.
