When one of the contractors working at CSA Mine found out the Great Western Hotel was planning an ‘Orphans Christmas lunch’, they jumped at the opportunity to help out.
Winder Controls Australia’s site superintendent Steve Andrews told The Cobar Weekly he had dinner at the Great Western last week and was speaking to managers Rachel Warren and Dave Portelli about their plans over Christmas.
“Dave mentioned they were all working Christmas Day putting lunch on.
“It started out speaking to one person who mentioned they were on their own, so Rachel invited that person to lunch at the hotel,” Mr Andrews explained.
“Word spread about this and now the numbers are currently is sitting at 144 people.”
(Rachel said when bookings closed last week, the final number was a staggering 164 people.)
Mr Andrews said when he learned that Dave and Rachel were offering the lunch at a less than cost price, he offered to donate something towards the lunch.
“When I mentioned it to my head office they immediately doubled the offer,” Mr Andrews said.
“It is unfortunate that there are people that haven’t got company for Christmas Day, but most fortunate that there are people like Dave and Rachel out there that have done something about it.”
