The Cobar Senior Rugby League Football Club welcomed a few new young faces to their committee at their annual general meeting on Sunday.

Emily Claus and Jessica Claus will share the secretary’s role and Rachel Garland was welcomed as the club’s new treasurer.

John Claus was returned as the club’s president with Glenn Davis, the group’s former treasurer, moving up to the vice president’s position.

Ben Trudgett was returned as the group’s Registrar and Media Officer.

In his president’s report on the 2015 season, John Claus said it had been a “challenging season” and while gate takings had been up this year he said the 2015 draw, which required the club to play three away games in a row and then three successive home games, had been really hard on the club.

Claus said he has raised the issue of the unfair draw with Group 11 who will take it into consideration for the 2016 season.

“The best part of the year has been the introduction of the girls’ League Tag team,” he said. “They were awesome.”

Mr Claus advised the meeting that the Group 11 executive was looking at enforcing all Group 11 clubs to nominate a Ladies League Tag team next season. (Currently the only two Group 11 clubs who do not have League Tag teams are Dubbo CYMS and Dubbo Macquarie.)

In his report to the AGM Mr Claus said it had been encouraging this season to see a number of players step up to regularly play two senior games each week to make up numbers.

He said he was also impressed with the development of the junior players over the past season.

“We need to start thinking about next year now and keep going ahead, not backwards.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Mr Claus said.

The club will hold their 2015 end of season presentations early next month and a date for a club working bee has also been set.

Ben Trudgett reported there has been a lot of interest for the club’s Mixed League Tag Summer competition with eight teams nominated already.

He said the competition will kick off at the end of next month.

Mr Trudgett also reported to the committee he is in the process of applying for funding through the ClubGRANTS Category 3 program to upgrade the clubhouse facilities at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.
