The Cobar Roosterettes have started the
Castlereagh Women’s League Tag 2021
competition off on the right foot with a
decisive 32-4 win over Trangie in Saturday’s
opening round.
The Cobar side was well served by Castlereagh
Cougars representative player, Kayla
Hasson, who scored three of the team’s seven
tries in Saturday’s win.
The Roosterettes fielded six new players
(some of whom had not played League Tag
before) for the game and they were well-led
by their veteran players in Hasson, Zoë Egan,
Bianka Jacobson, Brianna Watson (all of
whom scored tries) and Tyler Chiswick who
laid a solid foundation.
All of the veterans had strong games in
attack and defence.
In addition to displaying excellent ball
movement across the field, the Roosterettes
were also well-served by their younger team
members with Brennah Aumua (who also
added to the Roosterettes try tally), Hannah
Carroll and Aisha Schofield also stepping up
in both attack and defence.
Newbies Neve Carter and Georgia Boland
had a number of good runs in attack which
gave the Roosterettes good field position on
a number of occasions.
Watson converted two goals to add to the
Roosterettes’ final tally before she left the
field in the second half with an injury she
incurred in diving over the line.
The team takes on Baradine this Saturday
at Baradine for Round 2.
