After their earlier pre-season big win against the inexperienced Bourke Warriorettes, the Cobar Roosterettes were confident of another easy win going into their Barwon Darling women’s League Tag game at Tom Knight Memorial Oval on Saturday.
It was however the Warriorettes who posted early points after a 60 metre runaway try to Shavinnah Mann early in the game.
Shortly after the Bourke attackers made another break which was foiled by a try saving tag made by Naomi Whitehurst 10 metres from the line.
Cobar then took command of the game with Brianna Watson opening the scoring for the home side.
The successful conversion by Zoë Harland gave Cobar a 6-4 lead.
Harland then scored her own length of field try which was converted by Natalie Barnes, who finished with a perfect game record of four from four conversions.
The Bourke side rallied and after avoiding a number of defenders, Rozaria Suckling crossed just before half time to close the margin to 12-8.
Cobar owned the second half, in particular Taylah Good, who scored two tries from length of the field runs, one of which was an intercept.
Good finished the game with a hat trick when her third try came after backing up Jennifer Mitchell who made a break out wide, ran 20 metres and passed off to Good in support.
Kaitlyn Byrne’s swerving run to avoid two defenders resulted in a try while a great dummy pass close to full time resulted in Watson’s second try in the match.
Her successful conversion gave Cobar a convincing 40-8 win.
The Roosterettes will play at home again this Saturday up against Collarenebri as part of a full day of local rugby league action.
