Former NRL star David Peachey had a run with the local League Tag teams during Thursday’s second lot of double header games at Tom Knight Memorial Oval.
The outcomes of the Round 8 and 9 games decided the draw for this week’s semi-finals matches and, with another two good wins last week, JKM Phat Athletes finished as the competition’s minor premiers.
JKM”s first game of the night was up against the Barracudas in what was a very close game.
It was a tit-for-tat match throughout and just before fulltime, JKM only narrowly led 9-8.
That was before the star of the game, Tanya Gilbert, ran in her fourth try to give JKM an
11-8 win (female tries are worth double points).
Even with Peachey as a fill-in player, the Barracudas found it hard to catch Gilbert all match.
Zoë Egan and Josh Brown were JKM’s other scorers in this game.
Marty Turton (2), Peta Woods, Tyler Chiswick and Tim Hillam touched down for Barracudas.
In JKM’s second game against Junior League, Summer Patterson took over the starring role and most of the scoring duties.
Patterson netted three tries in their 10-7 win.
Gilbert also ran in another with Matt McBride and Adam Doherty JKM’s other try scorers in this match.
For Junior League, tries were recorded by Ben Griffiths (3), Corrina Brenton and Madasan Taylor.
In the other games played last week, Junior League won 8-2 over Racks & Sacks with Peachey helping out the Racks & Sacks side in this game.
Ben Griffiths was responsible for a try in this game for his Junior League side with team mates Josh Scott, Madasan Taylor, Ted Smith, Zane Taylor and Elias Aumua adding the extras.
Braith Good and Brendan Jones crossed for a try each for Racks & Sacks.
Racks & Sacks then went on to play a 7-all draw in their second game of the night with Idunno. Mel Singh crossed twice for Idunno with Nick Furner, Jacob Ryan and Jay Ellison their other try scorers.
Brendan Jones (2), Braith Good, Taylah Good, Ash Davies, and Hamish McLeod were Racks & Sacks try scorers.
The Camels side were a no-show last week and forfeited both of their games to Idunno and Barracudas.
