A good field of 24

Eight juniors turned out for the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s (CATS) Try-A-Tri event at Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool on Sunday morning. Elijah Hodges and Milla Davey (pictured at centre) competed as individuals while Nick Hodges, Daniel Buckman and Bayleigh Young competed as the BND team as did the Brothers (Jair, Jared and Daniel Apaza). The club holds their Try-A-Tri events each season as a gentle introduction to the sport of triathlons. The club runs monthly senior triathlon events from October to March.

There was a field of 24 athletes for the Cobar Athletics & Triathlon Squad’s November triathlon handicapped event on Sunday.

Two individuals and a team tackled the long course (500m swim/20km ride/4km run); six individuals and two teams took on the short course (300m swim/10km ride/2km run); and eight junior competitors competed in the Try-a-Tri (100m/2km/750m) which is a gentle introduction to the sport.

Paul Callaghan was first across the line finishing the long course in 1hr 09min 46sec.

Cheryl Lewington, second and Steph Baker third, both improved on their previous best times in the short course by almost five minutes each. Lewington recorded 46min 29 sec and Baker’s time was 45.29.

The BND team of Bayleigh Young, Daniel Buckman and Nick Hodges were first home in the Try-A-Tri event in a time of 13min 40sec.

Brothers (Jair, Jared and Daniel Apaza) finished in 15.18 while individuals Elijah Hodges recorded 17.16 and Milla Davey finished in 18.21.
