There are four new teams in the new Mixed Squalleyball competition that kicked off on Thursday night at the youth centre.
Team BNB, who appear to be still on a roll from last year, easily won the first game against new team Herbie’s before the newcomers started to find their feet.
Herbie’s put up a better showing in their next three games before they ran out of steam in their last match to ultimately lose 0-5.
The competition’s veterans Kamikaze Pilots are also back with a vengeance this season and cleaned up with a 5-0 win against Impossibles.
The Pilots easily won all five games, although the Impossibles improved with each game.
Team Baz may have been light on players for their opening round game, but they weren’t light on talent beating the Jets 5-0.
Whatever and Sweet Rally had the closest competition of the night with Whatever winning the first game 21-19, before Sweet Rally grabbed the second 21-6.
In what looked more like a ping pong game, Whatever won the third game 21-19, before Sweet Rally took victory in the fourth 21-12 to set up the fifth game to be the decider.
Whatever held out to claim their best victory of the night, winning the last game 21-16 and taking the match 3-2.
