There’s been a change of plans for this year’s local Australia Day celebrations with Cobar Shire Council announcing last week that charity worker Katryna Robinson is to be our new Australia Day ambassador.
Council’s Tourism Manager Demi Smith said our previously announced Australia Day ambassador, Sober in the the Country founder, Shanna Whan, is not able to make the trip to Cobar and so Mrs Robinson was appointed to take her place.
According to her bio, Katryna Robinson is an incredibly proud Australian who believes every Australian should have regular access to a toothbrush and a bar of soap.
Mrs Robinson is the Founder and CEO of ‘Every Little Bit Helps’, a national charity which helps homeless people in Australia.
For the past six years she has run the charity on a pro-bono basis leading a team of inspirational volunteers who, through their efforts and the donations of others, have distributed over 65,000 care packs or 1.25 million items, to homeless people in need.
Mrs Robinson said the catalyst for establishing Every Little Bit Helps was learning that while there are many facilities providing laundry and shower facilities, most are able to supply little more than running water and previously did not have regular and reliable access to basic toiletry products.
“By receiving donated hotel toiletries, airline amenity kits, as well as make-up and cosmetic samples and sanitary items, we are able to supply these products, packed into our care packages to the homeless, asylum seekers and victims of domestic violence as well as troubled youths through women’s refuges, homeless shelters, youth centres, asylum centres and community centres as well as via small government and community groups,” Mrs Robinson said.
Professionally Mrs Robinson is an IT Recruiter with more than 20 years experience and runs her own business.
She was born and educated in the NSW Southern Highlands and has been living Sydney for the past 15 years with her husband and daughter.
Mrs Robinson will be the guest speaker at next week’s Australia Day event and will help out with presenting the 2021 Australia Day awards.
