Railway Station gets a “facelift” with refurbishment work

The railway platform has been re-concreted and the retaining wall has been replaced.

The Cobar Railway Station underwent a bit of a “facelift” just before Christmas with a construction crew carrying out a platform refurbishment.

John Holland Rail’s Supervisor of Corridor and Civil Works for the Country Regional Network, David Haulser (a former Cobar resident), was in charge of the project on behalf of Transport for NSW.

Mr Hausler said the work involved re-concreting the whole platform and replacing the retaining wall.

He said the work was carried out due to safety concerns rather than for aesthetic appearances.

“Over the years the retaining wall had been slowly falling in towards the railway track and we were worried about the encroachment into the transit space.

“Basically it was a safety concern as it encroaches on the structural clearance for the train,” Mr Haulser explained.

“The front platform walls that were there had collapsed and we have taken them out and replaced them.”

Mr Hausler said the replacement of the existing retaining wall and the concrete platform was carried out on a “like for like” basis in order to meet heritage requirements
