Lots of high quality entries for this year’s Cobar Show

A group of seven exhibitors entered a total of 22 high quality fleeces in the Wool section at the 2022 Cobar Show.

Judging this year was carried out by Kevin Webb from Elders in Bourke.

Tambua were winners of the GG Knight Memorial Shield for Champion District Rams Fleece, District Commercial Value Fleece (with a value of $130.20), Most Successful Exhibitor in District, Poll Merino Stud Open Champion Fleece, Open Champion Commercial Value Fleece (with a value of $176.40), and the Don Macdonald Wool Prize for Grand Champion Fleece.

Darcy Manns of Gidgee was awarded Champion Fleece Exhibited by a Junior while Logan Germon was a Highly Commended Junior Exhibitor.

The sheep were of excellent quality and posed a challenge for Judge Gavin Swords from Laraben Poll Merinos, Mudgee to find a result. The winners of the sheep section were: Tambua (Commercial Value Wethers); Jane Evans—North Barnato (Commercial Vaue Ewes); Tambua (Champion Pen of 3 Wethers) Michael and Kate Evans—Tambua (Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Wethers); Jane Evans—North Barnato (Champion and Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Ewes); Jane Evans—North Barnato (Champion and Reserve Flock Ewe); Bill Mahy—Bulla Park (Parisi Family Trophy for Pen of 3 medium Wool Ewes); Bill Mahy—Bulla Park (Bill and Julie Rogers Trophy for 3 sheep showing potential for development); Jane Evans—North Barnato (Don Macdonald Wool Prize for Most Successful Exhibitor in the Flock Section).

Tambua Poll Mernio Stud were awarded prizes for Champion Grassfed Ewe Hogget, Champion Grassfed Ewe, Reserve Champion Grassfed Ewe and Most Successful Exhibitor in Grassfed Section.

Glenwarra Poll Merinos of Nyngan took out the Champion Grassfed Ram while Weealla Merinos and Poll Merinos of Gilgandra won the Champion and Reserve Champion Grassfed Ram.

In the Housed Sheep section Tambua Poll Merino Stud won Champion Housed Ewe Hoggett, Champion Housed Ewe and the Most Successful Exhibitor in Housed Section while Weealla Merinos and Poll Merinos took out the Champion Housed Ram and Mullengudgery Merinos Nyngan took home the prize for Champion Housed Ram.

Tambua Poll Merino Stud were awarded the Glen Rogers Livestock Transport Prize for Grand Champion Ewe of Show along with the prizes for Reserve Grand Champion Ram and the Ken Evans Memorial Trophy for Grand Champion Poll Merino Exhibit.

The Nutrien Russell Livestock Prize went to Mullengudgery Merinos Nyngan while Weealla Merinos and Poll Merinos Gilgandra took home the prize for the Reserve Grand Champion Ram of Show.

The cattle section was judged by Kim Williams of Polldale Shorthorns Dubbo with prizes in the Stud Cattle section taken out by Tambua Park Brahmans Cobar winning prizes for Champion Stud Bull (Nutrien Russell Livestock Prize), Champion Stud Female (Glen Rogers Livestock Transport Prize) and the Reserve Champion Stud Female.

Marrington Shorthorns Dubbo won the prize for Reserve Stud Bull of Show.

In the Commercial cattle section, Millidale Station took out First Place—Heifer any one breed under 24 months and First Place—Heifer any composite of breeds under 24 months while the Mackay’s from the ‘Ranch’ (Cobar) won first place for Cow Any One Breed and the Bill Montgomery Memorial Trophy for Champion Cattle Exhibit.

Grace Mackay took home the prize for Champion Junior Exhibit.

The Beachport Liquid Minerals Prize for Grand Champion Cattle Exhibit of Show went to Tambua Park Brahmans, Cobar.

In the Speed Shear competition, which made a return this year, Cameron Brown won the Opens class with Daniel Linnett the runner-up and Aaron Bell was third.

Kaylah McMaster won the Ladies and Novice classes with Kate Evans second in both and Shakira Russell was third in both.

Keiah Thompson won the Intermediate class ahead of Terry Johnson second and Damien Cullenward was third.

Hugh Cluff claimed the Dash For Cash prize.

There was a great response from local crafters, bakers, photographers and creators of all ages with 778 entries received in the main pavilion this year.

Eva Halliger, with multiple wins in a variety of categories took home the Lyle Boucher Memorial Trophy as the most successful exhibitor in the main pavilion.

Eva had wins in the Vegetables, Flowers, Crochet, Jams and Preserves, Fruit and Eggs sections.

Grace Cavalot and Ashton Campbell won the Junior Most Successful Girl and Boy Exhibitor titles while the Jan Snelson Memorial Encouragement Awards went to Thomas Knight, Hayley Wyllie and Grace Wood.
