Cobar’s Lochlan Ford was one of 227 new firefighters who graduated from the Sydney Emergency Services Academy on Friday.

‘Lochy’ is one of three new recruits that Station 256 Cobar has taken on recently and the first to complete his initial training in Sydney.

Deputy Fire Captain Alex Lennon said Lochy has now completed both his Phase 1 and Phase 2 training which are a mix of practical and theory based assessments to ensure each firefighter they recruit has the necessary skills to serve the community.

“Our other recruits Amanda Hyland and James Armstrong will also be put to the test shortly when their recruitment training is scheduled in January,” Deputy Captain Lennon said.

“Lochy has been a great member of our team,” he said.

“It’s been rare to have someone of Lochy’s age show such a keen interest in serving his community and jumping on board with us.

“We hope he can encourage a few more to come join,” Deputy Captain Lennon said.

“We currently have 13 qualified firefighters, including Lochy, and are still looking for more people to join our ‘Station 256 Family’.

“We are a great group, we have a good comradery and we get to keep the best town safe!” he said.

Deputy Captain Lennon said if anyone in the community is looking to join the brigade, they can find more information at Fire and Rescue NSW’s website (fire.nsw.gov.au) or call into the fire station in Barton Street on Monday nights when they are doing their training drills and talk to the staff.
