Locals take part in World Suicide Prevention Day Walk

Cobar Parkrun welcomed a few extra participants on Saturday morning with the weekly event being combined with Cobar Mental Health and Wellness Hub’s World Suicide Prevention Day Walk.
Cobar’s Wellness Coordinator Wendy Liu said the event, which was supported on Satur-day by the Generocity Church and Interrelate, is held to remember those we’ve lost to sui-cide, and to also raise awareness of mental health and suicide prevention.
Participants could choose to walk to remem-ber a loved one, as a personal tribute for a friend or family member, or to show their sup-port for Australians experiencing emotional distress or mental illness.
“Through connection, compassion and hope, we will unite to raise awareness, overcome stigma and commit to preventing further deaths by suicide. The event is an opportunity to min-gle and ensure that no one has to face their darkest moments alone,” Wendy said.
A free breakfast and coffee was provided for participants at the end of the walk.
