Locals spread the Christmas cheer

The Cobar Weekly’s 2025 Christmas Cheer Competition, sponsored by Aurelia Metals and Cobar Powerhouse, was very popular this year with 31 nominations vying for our Cobar Quids prizes. Aurelia’s Health, Safety and Environment Community Manager Scott Ginnivan (pictured at centre above) presented 1st ($500 Cobar Quids), 2nd ($300 Cobar Quids) and 3rd ($200 Cobar Quids) and five Highly Commended awards of $50 Cobar Quids each to our winners: Tegan Hamilton and family (87 Monaghan Street, third place); the Russells (11 Cypress Place,); the Tranters (5 Jones Drive, our overall winners), the Manns’ (3 Beersheeba Court, 2nd), Baptist Church (9-11 Harcourt Street), Scott Robinson (62 Monaghan Street), the Mackays (3 Echidna Avenue) and the Mahers (9 Denman Street). Our judges this year, Cobar Girl Guides, Cobar Youth Council, Lilliane Brady Village residents, Aurelia Metals staff and The Cobar Weekly staff, all agreed this year’s displays were the best they have seen in the competition to date.
