Hombres will face Bushies in the grand final of the Twenty/20 cricket competition this Friday night after both teams won their respective semi-finals on the weekend.
Hombres, who finished at the top of the ladder this season, beat fourth placed CSA on Friday night at Ward Oval.
Batting first, Hombres scored a competitive total of 7/160 from their 20 overs.
Hombres’ openers Roger Mitchell (62) and Jay Egan (32) put on 102 partnership for the opening stand.
Ben McBride (16) was the only other batsman to score double figures but 44 extras (wides, no balls etc) from CSA helped Hombres to their 160 runs total.
In reply, CSA fell 61 runs short of that target after being dismissed for 99 runs.
CSA’s openers Slade Neale (18) and Justin Sime (12) started well, but the team then quickly collapsed when they lost 10 wickets for only 56 runs.
Pat Dillon, with bowling figures of 2/12, Chris Gilbert with 2/7 and Ben McBride with 2/16 were the best of the Hombres bowlers.
In the second semi final held on Sunday, second placed Bushies easily defeated third placed Tilpa by nine wickets.
Tilpa won the toss and chose to bat first.
They lost both openers in the first over and never recovered to be bowled out for only 50 runs.
Reece Whittcher (20) and Archie McMaster (13) were the only batsmen to score double figures.
Mark Fraser with 2/8 and Bryan Manns (2/3) were the best of the Bushies bowlers.
In reply, Bushies had chased down the total by the seventh over with the loss of just one wicket.
Mark Fraser top scored with 33 runs not out and Alec Fraser was also still at the crease on 19 not out.
The Twenty20 grand final will be played this Friday night under lights at Ward Oval with Bushies hoping to upset Hombres.—contributed
