Golfers come to play Bannister’s Day

With the rain on Sunday, the Men’s Golf competition was restricted to a Stableford event only on Saturday.

It was a big day sponsored by the Bannister family, as they have been doing for over 60 years.

Having Bannister Day without Michael Bannister playing is a bit like having Christmas Day without Santa Claus.

However, even without Michael playing this year, the day was well run and was declared a great success with 17 men and 19 women enjoying the weather before the rain closed in on Sunday.

It was a member of the Bannister family, Brad Hardwick, who won the day for the men however it was only with a mediocre winning of score 37 points.

He was closely followed by the Supervet, Max Phillips, who defeated Jack Kershaw on a countback.

Both players scored 36 points.

Geoff Dunne, Mark Fraser and Paul Kershaw all had 35 points but Dunne won on the countback.

Nearest the Pin prizes were won on the 3rd hole by Alec Fraser, 7th—Bill Fugar, 8th and 15th—Max Phillips, and 11th—Peter Lawrence.

In the Bill Bartlett Matchplay competition, it was another epic match with Peter ‘Ding’ Lawrence eventually defeating Bill Fugar by chipping in on the 20th hole.

Lawrence will now play Jay Egan with the winner of this match to play Greg Clark in the final.

There are big odds on ‘Clarkie’ to take out the final whoever he plays against.

This Saturday is a Major Trophy Day with a Stableford to be played for the 5th Round of the Captain’s Trophy competition.

Sunday will be a normal club game.—Out of Bounds
