Fire fighting services were called to two fires at the Cobar tip last week.
While Fire and Rescue NSW Station 256 deputy captain Alex Lennon said last Monday night’s fire was only a minor one, the fire at the tip on Friday morning was however more sig-nificant.
“It burnt through the scrap steel section through the night and when Cobar Shire Coun-cil staff arrived at the tip this morning they alerted the fire services at 7.40am,” Deputy captain Lennon said on Friday.
“The main firefighting force was the Rural Fire Service with three appliances in attend-ance and their bulk water truck.”
Mr Lennon said they supplied two appliances including their Black Panther bulk water truck to help put out the fire.
He said the fire was extinguished by 11am.
Mr Lennon said there was no indication as to what started the fire.
He said at this time of year, it may have been someone inadvertently dumping their fireplace ash and suggested the best place to dump ash is at home in a steel bucket with water in it and at the tip there is also a designated area.
