Nutrien Russell has recently welcomed experienced Livestock Manager, Hamish Adlington to their team.
Hamish, who originally hails from Mudgee, said the land and livestock are in his blood.
“I came off the land, Mum and Dad had country in Mudgee,” Hamish told The Cobar Weekly.
“I’m a fourth generation livestock agent— my great grandfather, my grandfather and Dad used to be an agent as well.
“Ever since I could walk and talk, all I’ve wanted to be was a livestock agent so that’s pretty much how I got into it.”
Hamish has been in the industry for five years, three of those were spent in Queensland working with an agent in the sale yards around Dalby and Chinchilla.
He then worked in the Northern Territory in Alice Springs for two years with another agent “basically doing the same sort of thing”.
“Then I came back and was in Mudgee for a bit and then came out here,” he said.
Hamish started with David Russell and the Nutrien Russell team in February this year.
“Dad’s known David for a long time and I knew what the business was like.
“David’s got a massive business. I like the way he runs his business and the way that he does business.
“And the people around here in Cobar are friendly and Cobar seems to be a pretty good area. I like the town and the feel of it.
“I think the further west you get, the friendlier people get.”
As an accredited AuctionsPlus assessor and also an accomplished auctioneer, Hamish said he enjoys the variety of work his role as a livestock agent provides.
“There’s a lot of travel, but I like driving.
“No day is ever the same, there’s always something different going on.
“Like this morning, I’ve been in the office for a couple of hours then I’ll be going out to look at cattle towards Hermidale and then I’ll be drafting sheep tomorrow at Wilcannia.
“I enjoy meeting new people everyday and doing a deal.
“Getting a deal over the line and doing my best for clients who have worked hard and put their time, money and feed into their stock, is the best part of my job.”
