Empire smacked Golfie all over the cricket ground

Empire’s batsman Tom McKenna was in fine form in Saturday’s 40 Overs match against Golfie at Ward Oval. McKenna smacked the Golfie bowlers around the field and further beyond with a couple of big sixes also.

In the 40 Overs senior cricket match played on Saturday, Empire defeated Golf Club by 124 runs.

Batting first, Empire was bowled out in the 36th over for 174 runs.

Tom McKenna got Empire off to a flying start belting 42 runs off26 balls (which included a couple of huge sixes).

Empire had a mini collapse with the score on 54 and they lost four wickets for only five runs.

Tristan Everett (47) and Ethan Black (31 not out) got the innings back on track for Empire to post a more than competitive total.

Jason Hampel (on loan to Golf Club from Empire) was the best of the bowlers taking four wickets for 20 runs.

In reply, there was little resistance from the Golf Club batsmen as they were bowled out for 50 in only the 21st over.

Hampel (11) was the only batsman who managed to score double figures.

Extras (wide, leg byes and byes) top scored with 15.

Evan Rice (3/9), Taugh Waugh (2/2) and Ryan Urquhart (2/14) were the pick of the bowlers for Empire.contributed
