The Cobar branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) swapped their traditional afternoon tea of scones with jam and cream for some traditional Fijian food on Saturday at their monthly meeting.
The change of menu was in honour of the CWA’s Cultural Day with Fiji the group’s country of study for 2026.
Members dined on Fijian Honey Cake and Fijian Banana Cake with member Lillian Simpson providing a report to the meeting on information about Fiji’s population breakdown, climate and weather, language and customs.
New member Linda Carter was also welcomed as the group’s interim secretary.
The group’s 100 years celebrations were discussed in general business with president Colleen Boucher reporting plans are underway with the date and venue sorted along with decorations and a special celebration banner.
She advised members are collating historical information, photos and memorabilia for a display at the 100 years luncheon along with a display of craftwork.
Mrs Boucher said her goal is to have 100 guests — members, former members and family members, and members from other CWA branches — present at the luncheon to help the branch celebrate 100 years of Cobar CWA.
Mrs Boucher reported she has already heard from a number of former ‘Younger Set’ members, who were junior members back in the early days of the branch’s history, and who are interested in attending.
