Competition heats up in the pool

As the weather gets hotter, so too is the competition at the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club weekly events.

John Carswell was in sizzling form at the Cobar Memorial Swimming Pool last Tuesday night winning two of the four events contested.

In the 30 metres freestyle handicap swim, Carswell blazed home to finish within 0.06 seconds of his nominated time and claim first place.

Hot on his heels was Trevor Menadue with 0.09 while Jarred ‘Jacko’ Davey simmered back in third place on 0.13.

Fred Maybee smoked the rest of the field in the 50m handicap event finishing within 0.01 seconds of his nominated time.

Blazing into second place was Bill Fugar (0.12) and, after working up a sweat, Ben Plush finished third with 0.19.

Fired up from his first win Carswell turned up the heat in the 100m event winning with a time of 0.28 seconds off his nominated time.

Doug Rorke steamed home in second place with 0.75 and Bob Clark was hot on his tail in third place after recording a time of 1.00 second off his nominated time.

The brace relay novelty event was a backward butterfly swim and was described as “flamin’ funny to watch”.

The father and son combo of Bob and Stephen Clark scorched the rest of the field winning with a time of 0.31 seconds off their nominated time.

In second place was fiery pair, Menadue and Rorke (1.71) while third place went to the luke warm combination of Fugar and Sam Kershaw who finished with a time of 2.55 seconds off their nominated time.

The Yabbies will continue to swim at their regular Tuesday competition nights over the festive season.
