Three of Cobar’s major employers have put forward representatives to serve on the new volunteer committee for the Kubby House Child Care Centre.
CSA Mine, Peak Gold Mines and Cobar Shire Council all put forward staff members to act as committee members at the centre’s annual general meeting on Saturday.
CSA Mine’s manager Peter Christian was elected as president with Peak’s representative Rami Ghattas (who also has children at the centre) taking on the role of vice president.
Cobar Shire Council staff member Sandra Davey has taken on the role of treasurer while Kubby’s recently appointed administration assistant Rachel Simon was elected as committee secretary.
CSA representative Jacqueline York and centre parents Kylie Bullion and Kate Gollan were elected to the general committee.
In her outgoing president’s report to the meeting, Bonnie Fullagar said the past six weeks “have been extremely challenging for the committee and staff”.
“The difficult situation was also compounded by the absence of a handover from the previous committee and director,” Mrs Fullagar said.
She praised the help of qualified Early Childhood teacher Tracey Bowman, who’d temporarily come to the centre’s aid to ensure they could continue to operate.
“She has a wealth of experience and knowledge to manage the centre and staff.
“In her short time here, she has identified and implemented significant improvements to centre practices and processes.”
Mrs Bowman has offered her continued help until the end of the year (by which time it is hoped a permanent Director can be appointed). Mrs Bowman has also furthered volunteered to conduct regular independent audits of the centre next year.
