While the Cobar Camels may not have managed a win in the Western Plains Rugby Union competition this season, there was however still plenty to celebrate at the club’s presentation night on Saturday.
After being unable to field a side in the competition last year, the Camels were back on the paddock in 2026, with a new-look playing group and a committee that was determined to breathe life back into the club.
It was a season built as much on enthusiasm, commitment and rebuilding as it was on results, with players and committee members putting in plenty of hard work to get the club up and running again.
Their efforts were recognised and celebrated at Saturday night’s presentations, with the club looking back on a season that has laid the foundations for a stronger future.
The Clubman of the Year award was shared by committee members Dale McLeod, Jayde George and Taufao Taufao (who was also the team’s coach).
This season’s Best & Fairest Player was Marsh Rewha with the Players’ Player award going to Chris Crotty.
The Camels’ Best Forward in 2026 was Mitch Dunne with Fidelis Ah-Sam named their Best Back.
The Most Consistent Player trophy was shared by Jordan Sipendi and Jayden Paul.
The season’s Most Improved was Graham Manuai with Ben Tovale named the Rookie of the Year.
Napoleon Sipendi was credited with the Try of the Year.
The Training & Travelling award was shared by Matt Bolam and Ronan Hobday and the Coaches Award was also shared three-ways between Michael Uiva, Ben Griffiths and Jack Fazulla.
A new award was introduced this year, the Ailsa Fitzsimmons Memorial Perpetual Trophy -For Spirit and Dedication to the game of Rugby and Cobar Rugby Union Club and it was presented to club president, Peter Payne.
Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, the planned 1976 and 1996 Reunion has been postponed until the 2027 season.
