After recently completing an 18 months stint as a GP in Lightning Ridge, Dr Sanjay Jamwal is hoping to settle down now for a few years in Cobar.
Staff at the Cobar Primary Health Care Centre were pleased last week to welcome Dr Sanjay, who has wide and varied medical experience, which includes a keen interest in paediatrics and aged care.
Dr Sanjay trained in in Odessa in the Ukraine, before returning to Nepal where he practiced for seven years.
In 2007 he came to work in Australia at Sydney’s Southerland Hospital in emergency medicine and was also seconded to work with the Liverpool Hospital Trauma Centre.
Dr Sanjay did his six months anaesthetic term in Wagga Wagga, worked for another nine months at Maitland before returning to Sydney to work at St George Hospital.
Eighteen months ago took up the role of a GP and VMO at Lightning Ridge.
Dr Sanjay said he’d heard and read quite a bit about Cobar before he decided to apply for the position.
He had also visited his friend, Dr Raj, here in Cobar six months ago.
“I liked the community and the infrastructure here.
“The centre has some of the best resources I’ve seen in the outback,” Dr Sanjay said.
He hopes that his wife (who is also a doctor) and daughter and son will be able to join him.
In his spare time, Dr Sanjay said he likes to go fishing, play and watch cricket, and he is very much looking forward to joining the local gym and getting fit again.
