Club honours its sporting bodies

The 2025 Men’s Golf champions, Jay Egan (A Grade), Chris Clark (B Grade) and Paul Kershaw (C Grade) at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club’s Sporting Bodies Presentations on Saturday night at the club.

There was a good turn out of more than 50 men and women representing the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club’s affiliated sporting groups at the club’s Sporting Bodies presentation dinner on Saturday night.

Men and women golfers, bowlers, members of the Cobar Yabbies Senior Men’s Swimming Club and their partners, came together to celebrate their achievements of 2025.

The evening’s emcee, Shane Carter, said the club’s sporting bodies were an integral part of the club.

“Without these guys, the place doesn’t really exist,” he said.

He described the Cobar Yabbies as “arguably the most successful sporting body in Cobar’s history” citing the club’s numerous titles won at national swimming events and its long history dating back more than 50 years.

Yabbies club president John Carswell reported 2025 had been another successful year for their club with founding member Bob Clark claiming yet another national title at the National AIF Swimming Carnival in Coffs Harbour in March.

The club also had success at the Western Districts Carnival, Four Ways Swim and once again retained the Setts Memorial Swim trophy.

Among the Ladies Golf 2025 winners were: Club Champions, A Grade—Janet Place (Scratch) and Wen Zhang (Nett); B Grade—Geraldine Francisco and Karen Warren; and C  Grade—Ann Dunn (Scratch).

The Mabel Mackenzie Brooch winners were: Division 1—Narelle Kriz, Division 2—Fran Samios, Division 3—Ann Dunn and Senior vet—Susan Goonrey.

The Foursome Scratch winners were Sally Bannister and Geraldine Francisco with Sally also the Forward Salver Match Play winner.

The winners of the Phyllis Gardoll Perpetual trophy were: Janet Place (A Grade), Geraldine Francisco (B) and Ann Dunn (C).

The Men’s Golf 2025 champions were: A Grade—Jay Egan, B Grade—Greg Clark and C Grade—Paul Kershaw.

Bill Fugar collected the prize for the Most Nearest the Pins win for the 2025 season; Bian Smith was the Captain’s Trophy winner and Cohan Nicholson was the winner of the Monthly Medal competition play off.

Carter said the club had great numbers at bowls events over the past year with some thrilling games played in the Club Championships competition.

Kyle Roberts finished as the 2025 Singles Champion; Allan Knight and Greg Read were crowned the Pairs Champions; the Triples title went to Kyle Roberts, Don Roberts and Doug Hudson; with

the team of George Fraser, Mark Fraser, Paul Kershaw and Jay Egan claiming the Fours title.
