Close battle in women’s golf comp

The scores were close in last Wednesday’s Ladies Golf Stableford game which attracted 14 players. 

Wan Sipatsa managed a win with 35 points closely followed by Sally Bannister (34), Geraldine Francisco and Fran Samios (both 33) and Fay Hardwick on 32 points.

The Nearest the Pin prize on the 7th hole was won by Fran Samios in A Grade, Ann Dunn for B Grade and Sue Phillips in C Grade.

A variation Stableford was played on Saturday and despite the cold, windy and slight rain, the field of 22 players persevered until the
end.

Tina Gordon teamed up with Brenda Fugar to score 61 points to win the day.

A countback separated runners-up Fran Samios and Geraldine Francisco from Karen Manns and Fay Hardwick after both groups posted 58 points.

Angela Fryer and Narelle Kriz placed 4th with 53 points.

Barb Barklimore had the best individual score on the day of 35 points.

Nearest the Pin winners on the 8th hole were Narelle Kriz (A Grade), Brenda Fugar (B Grade) and Di Greer was closest in C Grade.

It was third time lucky with the twice postponed Vets Mabel Mackenzie Brooch finally going ahead on Sunday.

Geraldine Francisco was the winner finishing two shots clear on 71 net.

Narelle Kriz and Marlene Wynd both came in with 73 net, Sally Bannister (yet again placing in the top five) had 75 net and Daphne Cross finished strong for 77 net.

The best with the short stick on the greens were Susan Goonrey and Barb Barklimore after each had 24 putts.

A Stroke game will be up for grabs, both today and on Saturday with a Par game set down for Sunday.

The Matchplay competition draw has been finalised and the schedule is posted on the women’s golf notice board at the club.
