Blossoms were out in full bloom to take top touch prize

The Blossoms finished as the winners of the 2025 A Grade Mixed Touch competition after they beat Makos 5-4 in Thursday night’s grand final at Ward Oval

The Blossoms played a blooming great game on Thursday night to win their fast-paced A Grade Mixed Touch grand final beating Makos by a point, 5-4.

The match was played end-to-end with both sides making the most from quick plays from dummy half to move the ball down field.

At half time the scores were locked at 1-all after Player of the Grand Final Thomas Plater scored Mako’s first try while Kai Taylor was responsible for Blossoms’ first point.

Then it was anyone’s game in the second half.

Maddison Jeffery did a big job in the centre for Blossoms in defence and attack, Emma Barton and Graeme Barton showed some footy flair from the old days and Jimmy Neyland was everywhere on the field.

When Sosie Barton scored soon after the restart, the 3-1 score line gave the Blossoms a little bit of breathing space. (Female tries are worth double points.)

Taylor crossed for his second try in the match for Blossoms and Tadgh McMullen slipped through to score for Makos.

Neyland took an intercept pass and ran 50m to the try line to score and, with the margin at 5-2 in Blossoms’ favour, the clock was running down.

Makos however kept up the pressure with Plater quickly resetting after every play to give his side an attacking advantage.

It paid off and Tia Turner dived over on the wing to score for Makos right on the buzzer.

However it wasn’t enough and Blossoms claimed a thrilling one point win.
