Many champion golfers play the game all their life and never get a hole-in-one however during the men’s mid-week golf on Wednesday, Peter ‘China’ Brien scored his 4th!
And that was not all!
Brien had an excellent day on the course to also win the day with a score of 38 and also claim three Nearest the Pin prizes.
China truly is a legend of Cobar golf!
Travis Buckman came second with a good score of 36 points and Garry Wilkin was third with 34.
For Saturday’s event, 21 golfers made up seven teams for the Cobar Miners Race Club sponsored a three-man Ambrose.
The team of John Carlaw, Max Phillips and Brendon Falzon came in with 45 points and big smiles on their faces.
Then, Bill Fugar and Peter ‘China’ Brien came in with 43 points, but because there was only two of them, they got to pick a third player out of a hat and they drew Garry Wilkin, who had the best individual score of the day which elevated Fugar and Brien to 48 points – winning the day! (There could be an inquiry?)
Third place went to a member of “the Syndicate”, Tony Polack, who teamed up with Garry Wilkin and Ray Yench to score 44 points.
As mentioned, Wilkin had the best individual score, 39 points and Stewart Fraser scored 36 points for second.
Nearest the Pin prizes were won by: Bian Smith on the 3rd hole, Scott Mayne (7th) and Fraser the 15th.
The 8th and 11th were not won.
There was a field of 11 golfers for the Monthly Medal Stableford on Sunday.
The “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” title could be attributed to Chris Powell who finally came in with the best score, 41 points, which gave him the win on Sunday by a huge four shots.
Second place went to Michael Bannister who’s making the best of his 19 handicap.
Third place was John Carlaw who beat the “Super Vet”, Max Phillips on a countback with both players scoring 36 points.
Nearest the Pin shots were recorded by Bill Fugar on the 3rd and 7th holes and Garry Wilkin on the 8th.
There were a couple of Match Play games decided: Greg Clark caught Scott Mayne on a bad day and put him out of the competition while John Carlaw beat the “legend”, China Brien, who couldn’t be expected to star three days in a row.
This week, a two-man Ambrose Stroke event will be contested on Saturday and an individual Par is on Sunday.—Out of Bounds
