An upset in junior touch competition

There was an upset in Round 6 of the touch competition on Thursday in the jun-iors competition with the third placed Yellow Jackets recording a solid win over the second placed Red Devils, 13-8.
It was however the Red Devils’ Gabriel Har-ris who picked up three Best and Fairest (B&F) points for her dominant display in attack, along with Lila Armstrong who scored two tries and one B&F point.
The Red Devils’ defence of Charlie Nichol-son and Jackson Muldoon was tough, but Yel-low Jackets’ playmakers Kai McCosker and Eli Martin managed to cross the try line a number of times.
Maddison Jeffery and Skyla Fairfull also had strong games for the Yellow Jackets.
In the other junior match, the Orange Blazers were too good for the Blue Thunder with Row-dy Barton blowing the field away scoring an incredible five tries in the match.
Harpa Martin was however the standout play-er in the game scoring three tries and collecting B&F three points.
Blue Thunder’s Callum Robinson, Cohen Nicholson and Rhylee Jeffrey tried hard all game in both defence and attack, but it was the ladder leader, the Blazers, who ran away with the game.
The senior games last week were heavily affected by players with Far West Academy of Sport FWAS commitments, however both of the scheduled games went ahead.
The RND’s ran out convincing winners over Afta Midnight 10-1 with Aisha Schofield scor-ing three tries and B&F three points.
Kaeleb Saunders, Ethan McLeod and Jorja Harris were identified by the referees as having solid games in both attack and defence for the depleted Afta Midnight team.
Blue Marlins and Green Beans played off for top of the table honours, but the two sides couldn’t be split eventually drawing 10-all.
For Green Beans Kai Taylor picked up two tries and three B&F for an outstanding game where he directed attacking play throughout the tough match.
Tommy Bryan scored five great tries, and Maddie Bruce was consistent in defence to share in the game’s B&F points.
For the Blue Marlins, Mitch Allen had a strong game using his speed and skill. The crossed the line three times to score.
Tadhg McMullen and Ashley Cousins also proved difficult to contain in attack breaking the defence line a number of times.
This week the junior and senior grades will play a double header prior to their elimination finals.
With the ladder leader changing each week it should be an interesting final two rounds.
Well done to the junior players who were last week selected for the Catholic School’s Wil-cannia-Forbes squad teams.
Cohen Nicholson, Lila Armstrong and Phoe-be Travis will travel to Port Macquarie in May to trial for NSW Catholic Schools State selec-tions.
