It was an all Cobar podium finish at the combined Nyngan Golf Open on Sunday with Narelle Kriz the ladies’ Scratch win-ner (with 79 off the stick) and Garry Wilkin was the men’s winner with a scratch score of 71 from the field of 80.
In A Grade, Fay Hardwick won the 9 hole Scratch event (43) and the Nearest the Pin competition while Sally Bannister was the 9 hole Scratch runner-up with 44. Narelle Kriz won the Longest Drive prize in A Grade.
Continuing Cobar’s invasion of Nyngan was Geraldine Francisco taking out the B Grade Scratch title with a score of 95. Glenda Pee-bles had a brilliant day finishing as the Net winner with 72 net. Jannine Wilkin was the 9 hole Scratch winner (49) while Serena Fraser was the 9 hole Handicap runner-up with 42 net.
Julie Livingston won the Vets award with 83 net.
Rain disrupted the Ladies’ Golf competition last Wednesday but fortunately the course had dried out enough for play on the weekend.
Saturday’s annual Langford Day Canadian had 13 teams participating.
The winners on 69 5/8 net were Pat Polack and Mark Fraser.
Right behind and hot on their heels were Narelle Kriz and Stephen Manns with 70 net.
Jannine and Garry Wilkin placed third on 71 7/8 net followed by Serena and Stewart Fraser (73 net), Sue and Max Phillips (77 1/4 net) and Brenda Fugar and Wayne ‘Tweet’ Joseph-son with 79 3/4 net.
Nearest the Pin winners for the ladies were Serena Fraser (2), Brenda Fugar, Narelle Kriz and Sally Bannister.
For the men, Scott Mayne, Garry Wilkin, Peter ‘China’ Brien and ‘Tweet’ Josephson were closest to the flag.
There were not enough starters for a club game at home on Sunday as 10 of the Cobar lady golfers had decided to take on the Nyn-gan course before the flood waters were due down the Bogan river on Monday.
A Stroke round is on offer in the Ladies competition today.
A change to the program book has the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club sponsored Stableford now being played on Saturday, a Stroke game will be played on Sunday and to round off the long weekend, a Par event will be contested on Monday.—T’d Off
