Brad Beetson, the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club’s new secretary/manager, comes into the role with a wealth of experience having worked in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years.
Mr Beetson took over the role last Monday following the recent resignation of Demi Smith who has taken up a new position as Cobar Shire Council’s tourism manager.
“Taking over from Demi is going to be an easy slide in,” Mr Beetson said in an interview with The Cobar Weekly on Thursday.
“She’s done a great job for the club and she’s helped me out the last few weeks.”
Mr Beetson has previously managed the Kingscliff Bowls Club, Cabarita Bowls Club, the Manilla Services Club and also the Lismore Workers Club.
He’s also completed numerous industry-based training courses through Clubs NSW and is currently studying a Certificate IV in Accounting with TAFE NSW.
Mr Beetson also spent six years working in the mining industry before returning to work in hospitality two years ago to manage the Brewarrina RSL Club.
He said while Brewarrina was his home town, he’d found it to be very isolated and he was keen to again be part of a larger community.
He’s looking forward to working with the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club board and staff.
“The board seems great, very proactive on what they want to do, it felt like a good mix.
“The board stressed that sport is very important for the club and to continue that, to be a part of the community.
“That’s a good thing for the club itself and the community,” Mr Beetson said.
He was also impressed with the club’s facilities and the number of different groups that had in particular used the club in his first week of work.
Mr Beetson said he can see already that the club is an integral part of the community.
