Cobar Aboriginal Lands Council hosted a NAIDOC Day event in Drummond Park on Friday.
Organiser Rena Clements said it was great to see students from Cobar High School, St John’s School, Ngalli Preschool, members of the public and lots of local organisations taking part in the day which is an event to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Children were able to take part in a number of organised activities including ochre painting, making artefacts, joining in the drumming circle and sporting activities.
Special guest, former NRL and Australian representative rugby league player, David Peachey was in attendance and said it was a great opportunity to have a “yarn about life with the kids”.
He spoke about where life can take you from Cobar and said children these days have so many opportunities in the fields of education, sport, arts and music and he encouraged them to make the most of them.
“You don’t get nowhere in life without goals!” David said.
